Research interests

Landscape ecology & biotic ecosystem services: assessment of the effect of growing amounts of intensively used agricultural areas in the landscape on the availability of biotic ecosystem services. With focus on the diversity, fitness, performance and interactions of native communities of social and solitary bees, managed honey bees, wasps, their parasitoids and hoverflies.

Pollination: Pollen limitation of entomophilous crops and development of indicators for threshold levels concerning the amount of pollination to get optimal yields. This is linked to the evaluation of insect pollination in monetary terms as a convincing tool to highlight the importance of pollination for agricultural production and the need for conservation of pollinators. I am also interested in the determination of pollination efficiency and complementarity of different pollinator guilds.

Natural pest control: Contribution of predatory wasps and hoverfly larvae to biological control in crop fields.

Trophic interactions: Quantification of possible alterations of the trophic interactions and species turnover of host/parasitoid communities in changing landscapes.
